Bridge Project

Bridges

Class 2 enjoyed a design and technology project this term, which involved investigating various bridge designs and then practising building model bridges using a range of materials. Starting with construction kits and then moving on to use art straws and finally using wood and other materials, the children developed their understanding of how to build strong structures. Working in teams of three, with the support of parents and staff, the children then designed and built some excellent wooden bridges, each of which were easily able to hold several kilograms of weight, when tested. Finally, the class then discussed and evaluated the different designs, to identify how they might be able to improve their models even further and also to consolidate the knowledge about structures that they might be able to utilise in future design tasks.
