Garden Party with The Queen

Class One have recently had a very special visitor at Branscombe C of E Primary School!  As part of their ‘Bright Lights, Big City’ topic the children have been learning about London and the Royal family and preparing for a Royal Garden Party.  Leading up to the garden party, they used the Chrome books to look up where the Queen lives and took part in discussions about how to behave around royalty.  They have been looking at famous London landmarks and have started to learn the song ‘London Bridge is falling down.’ In the afternoon, the children busily laid the tables with china teacups and teapots, prepared cucumber sandwiches, made decorations, practised curtseying and bowing and dressed up in their best party clothes ready for the Queen’s arrival.  They sang the National Anthem to the Queen and all remembered their best manners.  The children then showed off their impeccable table manners whilst enjoying afternoon tea with the Queen. They served each other sandwiches, cakes and carefully poured ‘tea’ from china teapots.  All the adults were very impressed with the polite way the children spoke and listened to one another and their fantastic behaviour.
