May Day

Our May Day 2022 celebrations were extra special this year, as  Branscombe CE Primary School used it as an opportunity to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  Despite some grey clouds and intermitted rain in the morning, everyone managed to have a glorious afternoon with lots of family friends attending to watch the dancing.

The celebration began with a welcome entry parade from the whole school and the attendants this year were the two ‘Little Explorers’ from Class 1. The King and Queen were two Year 6 children – Corey and Grace, who were crowned by the special guest, Antonia from Ukraine.  Class 2 did a tremendous job of performing 9 dances and Class 1 joined in with the ‘Barber’s Pole’ dance, ‘Circassian Circle’ and ‘Pat-a-cake polka’.  A highlight for the children was when the family and friends watching were asked to join in with the ‘Pat-a-cake polka’!

After the dancing there were celebration readings for the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II lead by Class 2 and then everyone joined in with singing The National Anthem.

Finally, the PTFA kindly gifted the children a special commemorative coin and the school were also presented with a beautiful bench for the outside area.  Refreshments were enjoyed afterwards by all and the money raised will go into the School Community fund.
