MSC Napoli

The beaching of the MSC Napoli near to Branscombe continues to have a huge impact on the whole of our community.

In September 2007 the whole school worked with a local artist called Coco on an art project linked to the grounding of the MSC Napoli in Branscombe Bay. The finished results are quite spectacular and will be displayed at the Village Exhibition during half term before being brought back to school for a permanent home!

MSC Napoli Display

The theme for this year’s Branscombe Project Exhibition is the MSC Napoli.  The school has been asked once again to provide a display for the entrance to the exhibition.  We have used work to show the school’s journey over the last 10 months with the Napoli!

Napoli One Year On

As the anniversary of the grounding of the MSC Napoli approached, ITV Westcountry asked if they could film some of the children.  They were asked about how the grounding affected life for school children over the past year.  Click here to see the ITV Westcountry story.

Napoli Demolition Visit

The older children were invited to visit the site where the company ‘DRS Demolition’ have been working since the beaching of The Napoli in January 2007.  They were shown various pictures of the stages of the clean up operation and they were told lots of detail about how the operation has been conducted.  They also saw the ship’s anchor a few days before it was donated to the village.  Thank you to Martin and his team for giving up his time.

Napoli Anchor

In July 2008, the Village of Branscombe was given the MSC Napoli’s anchor as a lasting reminder of the events of January 2007.  We took the children to the unveiling ceremony and they had great fun being some of the first people to sit on the anchor!
