Ready Steady Write Day

Ready Steady Write Day - There Was An Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe

On our ‘Ready Steady Write’ day at the end of February 2019, the children and staff of Branscombe C of E Primary School spent some time considering the Nursery Rhyme:

‘There was an old woman who lived in a shoe,

She had so many children, she didn’t know what to do.

She gave them all broth without any bread,

Then kissed them all fondly and sent them to bed.’

The children had fun imagining and acting out some of the naughty things the children might get up to, then started to think of ways they might help the old woman to manage all her children.

Class 1 made models and drew pictures of the shoe house and then wrote about what it might be like to be one of the children living in the shoe.

Class 2 watched an extract from ’Sing’ in which one of the characters builds a machine to help her care for her many children. They then designed a machine to help the old woman in the shoe manage all her children and wrote an explanation about how their machine would work.

Displays of the children's activities and writing are shown below.
