Food Technology Project

In the Autumn Term 2019, the children of Class 2 at Branscombe C of E Primary School completed a Design and Technology project investigating healthy salad recipes. Towards the start of the term, the children had a go at making a range of recipes for the Harvest lunch they hosted for former staff and pupils of the school, using some of the produce from the school vegetable garden.

Then, later in the term, having researched and read a range of other recipes, the children were challenged to design their own healthy salad recipes. Their design brief was: “Design and make a healthy vegetarian salad using a mixture of raw and cooked ingredients, for a family meal.” Having researched the nutritional value of their chosen ingredients, the children worked in groups to fulfil this brief, which necessitated some negotiation and compromise over ingredients. They enjoyed preparing the salads and tasting the various salads produced. Next term, the children hope to create a recipe book containing some of their own original recipes, which they could sell as part of a fundraising project.
