Mexican Feast

In their Design and Technology work as part of the ‘Hola Mexico’ theme, the Key Stage 2 children practiced making a range of delicious Mexican dishes. They made drinks: ‘Agua Fresca’ with cucumber and lime or with watermelon; guacamole and salsa to be eaten with tortilla chips; chicken fajitas or vegetarian sweet potato and black bean enchiladas and a delicious Mexican dessert called sopapillas (soft pillows) made with puff pastry, honey and cinnamon sugar.

Having tried these recipes, the children were challenged to make changes to adapt and improve their recipes and then had another go at making them. This time, they served the results to their parents and to the other children in the school as an end-of-term treat. The Mexican treats were thoroughly enjoyed by the adult guests and the young chefs alike.
