Mosaic Project

Mosaic Project

In the Autumn Term 2016, as they were studying the Romans, the Art focus for Class 2 was working with mosaics. As well as looking at Roman mosaics, the children explored the work of other mosaic artists such as Sonia King and Antoni Gaudi. They experimented with pattern symmetry and design by colouring mosaic patterns on squared paper, using an Internet program to design mosaic patterns, printing patterns and designs with squared sticks and then using small squares of paper. Finally, with the support of a local mosaic artist, Lucy Daulton Tyte, the children used tiles to create a mosaic pot stand on a cork mat. This gave the opportunity to learn how to use this different medium, including doing their own grouting. Don't the final pieces look fantastic?
