Spring - Wassail

The National Trust helped the children to ensure a good apple crop next autumn by organising this year’s Wassail in the orchard. The children did their best to encourage a good apple harvest and scare away ‘evil spirits’ by making a hullaballoo with their pots and pans in the orchard and singing the Branscombe Wassail song. Finn and Agatha were crowned the Wassail King and Queen. Agatha was lifted into an apple tree where she placed toast dipped in wassail as a gift to the tree spirits. Everyone then drank warm wassail and ate apple pie around the fire.

The children also carried out a number of other activities whilst they were in the orchard including tree planting and making mud tree spirits which were placed in the trees.
