Waste Free Lunch

As a link to our recycling topic the children were considering the amount of packaging that is used in everyday products. We looked at the contents of their packed lunch and realised a lot of waste packaging was created every day. The children thought about ways that this could be reduced. For example they could make home made cakes and biscuits rather than buying packaged ones. They could buy large packets of things and then decant some of this each day into re-usable plastic tubs e.g. yoghurt, crisps.

The children designed menus for their lunch boxes and then we held a special Waste Free Lunch Day. The children had some great ideas for ways to create less waste and they also came to the conclusion that a waste free lunch also tends to be a healthier lunch.
